TV25: How Baltimore sees itself

A cable station operated by the Mayor's Office of Cable & Communications

With a 24-hour focus on Baltimore, TV25 presents viewers with unparalleled access to information about services, events, leaders and opportunities in neighborhoods and across the city.

With broad appeal and available to all city homes with cable television, TV25 offers sponsors and supporters the opportunity to reach approximately half of all Baltimore households.

TV25 is how Baltimore sees itself – reflecting all the best of the city along with Baltimore's challenges, plans and opportunities; showcasing city government, institutions, organizations and neighborhoods; and introducing city leaders and landmarks. The channel features news and information viewers can – and do – use in their lives and in their communities.

Providing production and programming for the channel and ensuring its responsiveness to community needs is the role of the Mayor's Office of Cable and Communications. Operating as a community-based station with a mandate for service, TV25 allows the institutions and organizations that serve as station and program sponsors to receive frequent and prominent recognition for their commitment to the city and its people.

Why TV25?

Television and radio then are ideal media for ensuring that important information about issues and resources reaches the entire Baltimore population, as we know, however, our young people get most of their information from television. Most commercial stations air only as much public service programming as they are required to and then tend to air this programming during non-peak viewing hours. Public television and radio, unfortunately, air primarily national, not local programming, and often fail to attract viewership from targeted audiences.

TV25 reaches the approximately 115,000 Baltimore households that subscribe to cable television, or 48 percent of all Baltimore households. Negotiations are underway to ensure that Baltimore County residents will also have access to TV25 programs.
